Kath Kim Disappointing Dull

I wanted to like "Kath & Kim" - Molly Shannon is a comedy goddess and Selma Blair is good too. The concept of an apologetically trashy mother and daughter duo aerobicizing their way through life had enough potential to keep the original on the air in Australia for four years. But something tells me the US version won't make it past a few weeks. The biggest problem? The first episode is painfully unfunny despite Molly's best efforts. She's easily the best thing about this show - and deserving of a much better series. In truth, the bulk of the blame for the "K&K's" shortcomings can be placed on Selma's shoulders. She simply doesn't have comic timing for a sitcom and pretty much drops the ball whenever Molly nimbly tosses it her way. Although that might be a byproduct of bad writing. Potatoe, potatoh Even if people tune in to tonight's premiere - 8:30 on NBC - I don't imagine they will come back for more, especially given the show's stiff competition of "Survivor," "Ugly Betty," "Smallville" or watching paint dry.

On the set of her new sitcom, Kath & Kim, Selma Blair looks totally jazzed! She's having so MUCH FUN on the set of this new raucous comedy! Kath & Kim is hoping to do what The Office did - take a hugely successful show from overseas and recreate it in the U.S. Jane Turner and Gina Riley, who play the title characters in the original Australian version, are co-executive producing the show. I've seen the previews, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a bit skeptical. Hopefully they can get into a groove the way The Office did and come up with something brilliant. Because I love Molly Shannon! But also. I think I might get a little nose-turny-uppy about the series because I actually auditioned for a major role on the show - the part of Kim's loser, cat-lady best friend, who is even more of a moron than Kim is. (Hello, that's ME!) And. I have a picture of what I wore to the audition. Are you ready for the SECOND worst picture of me of all time??? Click below to see! At least in this picture, I'm trying to look awful. You should have seen the other two girls in the waiting room when I showed up.
