Turns out that Tim Gunn has a knack for being right even outside the sewing room -- yesterday I told you how he said the judges choices this season were a bit off base and last night we saw just how cockeyed Heidi, Nina and Michael were. The challenge, which forced each designer to incorporate an article of clothing from another contestants suitcase into their design, led to some fug-city fashion. Like this monstrosity from Valerie, which didn't even land her in the bottom! Who is seriously going to wear a dress with a crotch strip and rabbit ears for breasts? As for the designers who actually landed in the bottom, let's work it from left to right. McKell's dress was one of my favorite of the night, so the fact that it actually led to her elimination is shocking to me. The judges biggest complaint was that the outfit was styled badly. OK, but since this isn't "Project Styling," how about we focus on the garment itself guys. Jason, who had to work with Andy's kimono, simply turned it around -- like a Snuggie. And even then he didn't finish: pins and staples were visible from the bleachers. He was spared elimination. Ivy took a lot of hits for "making pants out of pants" from the judges -- and as amazing guest judge Selma Blair pointed out, "it's such an unfortunate pant to begin with." But I do not understand all the negativity towards the blouse -- Michael Kors simply piddled himself over finding so many bad things to say about the razor cut top. I thought it was super cute. The pants were unquestionably hideous, but I kept hoping Ivy would respond to their "you made pants out of pants" comment with, "yes, but I also made a shirt out of nothing, do you have any feelings about that?!?!" She too was safe. But the night's biggest question mark lies over Casanova's head -- both literally (his aesthetic is seriously in question) and figuratively (he doesn't quite speak English). He made that sarong thingy that would be considered rather slutty even on the beach. But in the real world, it's just a joke. Which led to even more jokes from the judges: "pole dancer in Dubai" was the best barb. The judges also kept Casanova, saying they were intrigued by his personality!?! Friend him on Facebook then Heidi, sheesh! Since I'd like to leave this post on a positive note let's all marvel in the hawt cap & killer styling Andy finished off his model with: OK, I could have done without the fairly literal chopsticks, but that hat & eye are working me over. Love them.
